ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

I am a seasoned academic leader with more than twenty-five years of experience in higher education and over fifteen years of academic leadership experience across both community college and university settings. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to advancing student success, academic excellence, institutional effectiveness, and collaborative leadership in support of the educational mission.

My administrative experience spans academic affairs, faculty development, strategic planning, curriculum innovation, accreditation, assessment, enrollment management, budgeting, scheduling, facilities oversight, and community engagement. I have successfully led academic departments and programs, supervised faculty and staff, managed budgets and resources, coordinated multi-campus operations, and supported initiatives that promote continuous improvement and student achievement.

As a leader, I believe that successful institutions are built upon strong relationships, clear communication, shared purpose, and a commitment to service. My leadership style emphasizes transparency, collegiality, accountability, and collaboration. I strive to foster environments where faculty, staff, and students feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the life of the institution.

Throughout my career, I have worked closely with faculty and staff to support curriculum development, assessment processes, program review, strategic enrollment initiatives, accreditation efforts, and student success initiatives. I value shared governance and believe that effective leadership requires listening carefully, building consensus, and making informed decisions that align with institutional priorities and student needs.

My experience also includes significant engagement with diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, campus climate, and institutional culture, particularly within Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). These experiences have deepened my understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing first-generation, historically underrepresented, and non-traditional students. As a first-generation college graduate and immigrant, I appreciate the transformative power of education and remain committed to fostering inclusive, student-centered environments that promote access, persistence, achievement, and belonging for all learners.

Above all, I view leadership as a form of service. My goal is to support students, faculty, staff, and the institution in achieving their fullest potential while cultivating intellectually vibrant, inclusive, and innovative learning environments. I remain committed to strengthening academic programs, advancing student success, supporting faculty excellence, and building meaningful partnerships that contribute to the long-term success of the institution and the communities it serves.

Leadership Philosophy

My leadership philosophy is grounded in the EERA model: Explore, Examine, Reflect, and Then Act.

Effective leadership requires both thoughtful analysis and purposeful action. Before making decisions, I seek to understand the full context of a challenge or opportunity by gathering information, listening carefully to stakeholders, and exploring multiple perspectives. I then examine available evidence, institutional priorities, relevant data, and potential implications. Through reflection, I consider both immediate and long-term outcomes, assess possible consequences, and identify the most appropriate path forward.

Only then do I act—intentionally, thoughtfully, and in alignment with the institution’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

This framework encourages informed decision-making, fosters trust, strengthens collaboration, and supports continuous improvement. It reflects my belief that leadership is most effective when it is collaborative, reflective, evidence-informed, and grounded in service to students, faculty, staff, and the institution. Meaningful and sustainable progress is most often achieved when diverse perspectives are welcomed, stakeholders are engaged in the process, and decisions are informed by collective wisdom and shared purpose.

The EERA model also reflects the values that have guided my career: empathy, intellectual curiosity, cultural awareness, transparency, accountability, and a commitment to continuous learning. By exploring, examining, reflecting, and then acting, leaders can navigate complexity with greater clarity, build stronger relationships, and make decisions that advance both institutional goals and student success.

Leadership is not merely about directing others; it is about creating the conditions in which people can thrive, contribute, collaborate, and achieve shared goals. I believe the most effective leaders listen first, learn continuously, communicate openly, build consensus where appropriate, and act with integrity. Through this approach, I seek to cultivate collaborative, inclusive, and innovative academic communities that support excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship, and service.

“Leadership begins with understanding, grows through reflection, and achieves impact through purposeful action.”
